Yesterday I was packing up my things to move into my first small apartment.
"MY OWN PLACE". Today, I am now helping my son pack his things to move in to his
first apartment. That’s the way it seems. I do not know what happened to the
twenty-four years in between the two events, but they're gone. My son is just as
excited as I was about his first full time job and a place he can call his own.
He lived on the college campus for the first two years then shared a house with
several other guys but the house was furnished so this is his first chance to
decorate his apartment space the way he wants it.
The apartment he found was a small one bedroom with a balcony. The
bathroom was next to the bedroom and a nice size. The kitchen was your basic
apartment U-shaped kitchen with appliances on one side and counter space on the
other with cabinets lining the wall space. The counter space could be used as a
breakfast bar where he could add some bar like stools. The counter was adjacent
to the small dining area that had the patio doors that led out to the balcony.
It was a second floor apartment so his balcony overlooked the side of the
building, which was a grassy area with lots of trees and a beautiful flower
garden. I wasn't that lucky to have a view like that... The living room was
decent size however it was long and narrow. This is where our children like to
fall back and ask for help and wanted me to help with decorating ideas for a
living room that was so narrow. Wife where are you? - Help!! One end of the
space had a gas fireplace, the other end was a blank wall with two large windows
on the long wall. It was hard to think of decorating ideas for a living room
that didn't have any furniture in it. He had saved enough money from his summer
job this past year to buy some furniture and naturally we added some
help. One cost saving area for his new place was the bedroom furniture, which
was his anyway, kinda. Anyway, with his bedroom furniture gone from his room at
our house, my wife loved the idea of converting it in to a home office space.
So, all my son really needed to find was a small dining room set, living room
furniture and the basic kitchen items of plates, glasses and etc and bathroom
items.
Back in my day we bought our housewares from the local stores that where
available. And that worked. But in today's climate and I need not go in to
detail on how are economy is right now, saving money on the essentials we need,
takes priority. He can add some upscale decorating ideas later once he has a few
pay checks socked away. Shopping online not only gives us better choices for
shopping for the best low cost pricing but also saves a lot of our personal time
and gas........
So, we got online and accessed Domestications from a recommendation from a
friend several years ago. My wife and I have been shopping this site ever since. And
again, you just can't beat the quality and the pricing is affordable. So, we got our list together
and began finding the furniture and accessories we needed. My son found a cool
table and chairs he wanted for the dining room as well as two
lamp stands and a
coffee table for the living room. This was his kind of shopping and would give
him more money to spend for decorating ideas for a living room space that was
going to be a challenge for all three of us. We found a great deal on the table and chairs, we also
found two chairs upholstered chairs with a design he real liked. I suggested he
buy them to make a grouping by the fireplace and then have a television watching
area in the other part of the living room. This all turned out to be a great
decorating ideas for a living room shaped like his.
We completed all our tasks with the help of your decor idea section and buying
